Who am I?

My name is Trevor Shand. My background in teaching this subject includes having an MBA in Entrepreneurship, volunteering with the local entrepreneur non-profit Community Investment Collaborative (CIC – https://cicville.org/) as a team lead, mentor, and content creator, being a judge for multiple pitch competitions, and I have started two companies myself. Both of my parents have owned their own companies as well and I started working in those endeavors at a young age.

In addition to having both a formal and informal education in entrepreneurship, I have a background in teaching at Bastyr University and University of Virginia. I have also taught many co-workers new tools and new processes during my more traditional roles within larger companies. Most of my roles within existing companies have been what I call internal entrepreneur roles, where I am building a new tool or functionality or changing processes and workflow.

I love learning new things. I have a diverse background and when I say diverse, I’m not kidding. A partial bio includes:

I have ridden an elephant, kissed a dolphin, swam with sharks, run with bulls, and shown a pig.

I have been nationally ranked showing dogs and racing triathlons.

I have finished an Ironman, ran 50 miles, and swam the Chesapeake Bay just to see if I could.

I have been thrown from a horse and got right back on.

I have hiked without purpose and watched more than a few sunsets.

I’ve gone to bed and gotten up at three in the morning.

I have been bungee jumping and skydiving.

I have driven more than 100 miles an hour in a race car and been more scared riding at 65 miles per hour in an economy car.

I have put breakers into breaker boxes, remodeled whole bathrooms, and I can pull and replace car engines.

I smoke my own salmon, make a mean white cake, and can sew fairly well.

I think this diversity has always helped me look at new things through different lenses and allows me to connect with folks of varied backgrounds.

My inspiration for starting this blog was twofold. One, I enjoy writing. Two, I enjoy teaching as well as learning and I am hoping this blog allows me to do both.
